American Girl Doll Box Cake

Single Layer Red and White Doll Box Cake with Stars.

I made this cake for my girlfriend’s daughter’s 10th birthday. She collects American Girl Dolls and when she asked me about an American Girl Doll cake, I thought that the box would be pretty easy. The American Girl Doll box is a beautiful box but it turned out to be a little tougher than I thought!

I made the cake out of chocolate and vanilla cakes with vanilla buttercream icing and marshamllow fondant. I used ten 10×10 square sheet cakes. I baked and froze them the week before. After filling each layer, I
carved the cakes so they were perfectly square. I covered the cakes with a thin layer of butter cream and let it set until the following day. When I made the fondant, I colored the marshmallow because the cake was very big.

After covering the cake with the fondant, I added borders of buttercream. I made more fondant to cut stars and a circle for the top of the cake. I just used cookie cutters for the stars and a bowl for the circle. The covering of the cake took about 3 hours.

The American Girl Doll Box Cake must have weighed 40 lbs. and Lizzy loved it!
