IPod Touch Cake

A coworker wanted an IPOD touch cake for her teenage son’s birthday. Altogether, I was very pleased with how the cake turned out.
After experimenting with fondant, I decided to use homemade marshmallow fondant for the apps. The apps were rolled out, cut with a medium-sized square cutter and decorated a few days before. Keeping them refrigerated helped them retain their shape and made them easier to handle until it was time to place them on the cake.
The fondant squares were decorated with medium consistency buttercream and a #2 round tip while the small details were added with toothpicks.
She wanted a black and red “case”. Since these colors tend to have an unpleasant aftertaste, I tinted homemade buttercream instead of fondant to achieve better flavor. Over the frosting, I used colored decorating sugar to add sparkle to the IPOD “case”
