Kayak Wedding Cake

This wedding cake was made for a bride and a groom who loved to kayak. The bride provided me with the two “kayak people” who sit at the top of the cake. I used my basic yellow butter cake for the top and bottom layers and filled them with white buttercream icing and raspberry preserves. The middle layer was a moist chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache. The entire cake was iced with French butter cream icing.

To make the “waterfall”, I colored fondant with blue icing dye, rolled out a long rectangle and placed
it on the side of the cake. I used the same colored fondant on the top of the cake to simulate a “lake look”.

To make the fondant look more “water like”, I painted it with blue and green icing dyes mixed with vodka in a swirling style to make it seem as if it was moving. I did the same to the top of the cake. I used real greenery and flowers on the top and sides of the waterfall. The “rocks” are chocolate candies I found at a local store. The two kayak people sit on top of the cake as if they are about to fly down the waterfall.
