Marbling Fondant: The Easy Way

Aside from soft icing like buttercream or chocolate, fondant is used to decorate cakes. Fondant icing makes cakes luxurious and more elegant, that is why it is favoured when making celebration cakes especially wedding cakes.

Fondant is very tricky to make even though it is just primarily made up of sugar, gelatine and glycerine. Once made, the fondant has dough-like properties making it extra pliable to form various objects and designs. Since fondant icing does not melt nor require refrigeration, fondant cakes are recommended for special events held outdoors. Fondant icing requires a lot of expertise to handle and accomplish a drool-worthy cake. Thankfully, there are numerous talented bakers who specialize in fondant cakes. The only downside to this is that the cake can get really expensive. Marbling fondant icing is an easy yet artistic way of decorating your cakes. Just take an equal amount of two different colored fondant icing and make it pliable by kneading it a bit with your hands. Knead both fondants into a cylinder shape, twist them together and then fold over. Press down the fondants together and use a rolling pin to flatten them. Don’t forget to dust your working surface as well as the fondant to prevent them from sticking. Continue twisting the fondant and flattening it with the pin until you get the desired marbling effect.
