Twilight Theme Cake

The idea for this cake came from the book Twilight.

I used a 12″ square cake tin and made a light sponge cake. I filled the cake with jam and butter cream.

To make the book shape I sliced 3″ from one side, this then made a perfect book shape. The edge of 3 sides was covered in apricot jam then covered in white fondant icing. I used a large spatula to lightly mark the white icing to make it look like pages. The top bottom and one side was covered with black fondant icing.

I modeled two hands and arms out of flesh colored fondant icing, using my hands for the correct positioning of how they needed to be dried. These were fixed on to the cake using wooden flat lolly pop sticks(new).

The apple was also made out of white fondant icing and painted red, the stalk is just a small piece of brown icing glued on the top of the apple with edible glue. The apple was attached through the cake and hands to
prevent it rolling off.

I hand wrote the words on the front of the book using white lustre powder diluted down with clear alcohol. (vodka). The pages of the book were painted with gold lustre powder to give it the read page look. The book mark was made from red fondant icing at glued on to the board with edible glue.
